The May P. & Francis L. Abreu Charitable Trust funds organizations in the Atlanta area only (Fulton, Dekalb, Cobb, and Gwinnett counties). Exceptions are made for areas where the Abreu’s have lived. The foundation supports organizations that meet critical community needs in the areas of children’s and senior services and animal welfare. Types of support include capital campaigns; program development; seed money; and matching funds. The foundation does not approve requests for operating or grants to individuals.
The foundation has a two-phased application process. All organizations wishing to apply for a grant must first submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) to the foundation. Even if an organization has received funding from Abreu in the past, the LOI is required. After reviewing your LOI, you will either be notified that your request has been declined OR you will receive a link to the full application. All requests must be submitted using the online system. If an LOI or full application is received after the deadline, it will be moved into the next grant cycle.
The Trust has two grantmaking cycles.
